What is a Mentor?A mentor is an older, experienced individual that offers advice to help their mentees succeed in future endeavors. Here with the College Mentors for Success, we strive to guide high school students on their path to success.
How can a mentor be important throughout the college application process? Many high school students, our own mentors included, report that having someone close in their age walk them through the college application process is extremely helpful. This process can be incredibly stressful and confusing, especially to those that may be the first one in their family applying to college. We take great pride in giving advice and mentorship to others since we all have experienced applying to college recently. Our mentorship is especially valuable in conjunction with guidance provided by school counselors. |
Responsibilities of Our MentorsWe expect our college mentors to undergo a brief interview and training before taking on the responsibility of a mentee. The mentors will be responsible for setting up weekly meetings through Zoom for face-to-face interactions. The mentors should be respectful and attentive to their mentees and are in right to receiving that same respect back. Mentors will abide by a 3-strike policy that will enforce these responsibilities for the sake of the mentees and upholding our integrity as a mentoring program. These responsibilities will be monitored and reiterated through GBM's required for mentors to attend.
These responsibilities will be further discussed during the interview and through our training! |
